past personal diary entries of an artist - from 12 jul 04
Hi,
It was a glorious weekend! HT and I spent most of yesterday on the road, visiting the Texas and Louisiana Visitors' Centers. That was partly to collect brochures for possible class/event sites. It was also so that HT could take photos for an online digital scavenger hunt that he's in. We needed "Welcome To...," photos with him plus the state signs. It was a great road trip! The border is about two hours from where we live, and the weather was perfect.
But Saturday was a great day, too. One of my current projects is writing a brief history of journaling and diaries. And, while doing online research, I stumbled upon the Online Diary History Project, which includes interviews from the acknowledged "old timers" of online journaling. Well, as I was scrolling through the names, I laughed out loud when I saw my own name. I'd forgotten that they interviewed me for this website, about four years ago. And, I'm honored to be in such illustrious company.
Speaking of online diaries and blogs, one of my favorites is Layers of Meaning. In it, Serena Fenton talks about so many different kinds of art, and I'm constantly finding inspiration in her links. Right now, it's the art of Cynthia Korzekwa. I particularly like her contemporary retablos, at ikastikos.fateback.com/index.htm, but that link seems not to be working today. I'll keep checking and let you know when it's back. Her art on cardboard is well worth seeing.
I also like Everyday Matters, by Danny Gregory. I keep aspiring to post a journal like his, filled with lots & lots of art.
But anyway, HT and I were talking about another project that I keep thinking about, which is a variation on the usual digital scavenger hunts, but for artists... something to get people to actually pick up their cameras and experiment with them in artistic ways.
For many of us who are paper artists... Well, we own cameras. We use them to take pictures of elements that we want to include in our other art... sometimes. But I know very few of us who consider ourselves actual photographers. And, I want to start a challenge that helps all of us break through the barriers to using our cameras to take photos that are art as pictures.
Anyway, HT came up with some great ideas, and I'm eager to try them... in the next couple of weeks.
Today, I'm painting, framing the art that I sold last week, and generally having a fabulous day.
I keep meaning to start a daily collage, but I haven't gotten to that... yet. Maybe later this afternoon, I will.
Wishing you rich and creative days filled with dazzling inspiration,
