It's been awhile since I posted here, partly because I've been both busy and sometimes overwhelmed by the magnitude of what I'm doing, moving 1800+ miles to a new location, new climate, and so on.

The heat of the summer is mostly past, and right now I am absolutely loving the weather in Houston. My studio/office isn't fully set up in our apartment, but it's functional enough that I'm working on art. My ATC-type cards for Red's "Autumn Carnival" deck are shown, below. I'm working on mandalas as part of my art journaling right now. I'm not certain why, but that calls to me. *shrug* I'll post them here as I complete them. The current one is 16" x 20" on canvasboard, in acrylics. I'm working on these slowly & thoughtfully, but the first one should be finished this week.

I'm also preparing to work on art books, some using a "Jacob's ladder" style of binding. I haven't thought that through, yet, but it intrigues me. Maybe it's my profound dyslexia, but since I was a child, the Jacob's Ladder movement has almost hypnotized me.

In fabric art, I've been wanting to make some cloth dolls (Voodoo-style, not "cute") for awhile, and I'm about to work on that as soon as I get a bit more unpacked.

For eBay, I'm going to work on cigar box purses, since it's the holiday season and a lot of people do their shopping at eBay. I moved three boxes filled with cigar boxes, some already started as shrines. Last night, I picked up a sander/polisher to refinish the wooden ones. This is going to be a very fun project!

I'll also be putting some random bits of art into eBay, including the "Voodoo Vampshade" that I made a few months ago. It's been securely wrapped & packed since I made it, sitting safely in a box in storage. I know that my early pieces in eBay will go for a song, so I'm saving the Vampshade until I've settled in at eBay, a bit. But, I'll place it in eBay before Christmas anyway.

On the personal scene: I'm living a charmed life. Leaving NH--friends and family, plus the area I grew up in--was difficult in some ways. However, the man in my life has been so breathtakingly supportive and encouraging, I'm in awe of his patience and thoughtfulness. And, with few exceptions, the people of Houston have been consistently friendly and have provided a fabulously warm welcome. I am very grateful for this!

This past week, I registered my car and got my Texas drivers license. Now, I guess that I'm officially "here." *grin* And, I'm very happy.

Oh, there are times when small and large things catch up with me. This hasn't been an entirely easy move, and there will be times when the stress & hardships of it catch up with me. But generally, I'm happier than I've been in years. I feel loved & cherished, and enormously fortunate.

Now, though I'm not even half-unpacked yet, I'm feeling restless and eager to resume my art and some teaching. I'm thinking that I'd like to teach locally at least once every two months, and then go out to teach somewhere else--New Orleans? Orlando?--once every two months, too.

Wishing you rich and creative days filled with dazzling inspiration,
