I started with the purplish photo of the boat in the water. I scanned, reduced, and saturated the image.
Next, I found the butterfly image in a magazine advertisement. I scanned and tweaked that, altering the colors for the variations in the finished collage.
What really tied the theme together, was an automobile advertisement, which showed a group of people with jetpaks, flying, and the line, "Until then," followed by photos of the automobiles that were advertised.
The words, "until then" reminded me of my own perpetual state of optimism, that "as soon as..." I finish a current project, I'll have time to relax, get caught up, and so on.
In reality, as soon as the current project is completed, there are half a dozen new (or lingering) projects, screaming for my attention.
Until Then reminds me that the "until then" moments are the ones I should enrich. Suffering nobly as I try to get caught up, finish what's in front of me, and so on... well, that's not living. That's exhaustion! *grin*
As soon as I'd selected that line from the magazine ad, I understood what I was aiming for with this collage: I wanted heady and intoxicating colors and images, to suggest the rich and delicious life I want to be living--and need to consciously create in every moment of now.
I've swapped copies of this 2.5" x 3.5" card with other artists. The original collage (which is 5" x 7") was sold at eBay.
I really like the image, and the message of this collage. I hope you do, too.
