Some recent color and composition studies
©2004, by Aisling D'ArtThese were each painted on small canvas boards--the largest is 12" x 16"--using acrylic paints. Generally, I'm working with Brera paints, an Italian line made by the Maimeri company. (Pronounced "my-merry") They're the only acrylics that I've found that come even close to oil paints in terms of authentic color, ease of mixing, and workability.
As I'm painting, my focus is on two aspects: I'm learning about color, especially how light affects local color. And, I'm experimenting with compositions, which is where the elements appear in the painting, and how light & shadow affect the final work. I'm also loosening up with paint; it's been years since I last painted aggressively and steadily for gallery and show sales.
Since this is pretty much a chronological progression, you can see the effects that I'm trying, and how much style--particularly the use of color--is evolving.
Most of these paintings, larger and with explanations, are in my portfolio at EBSQ. And, most of these color & composition studies have sold at eBay within a day or two of completion.
