That word, "goddess".... I can't speak for everyone, and I certainly don't want to launch into a religious discussion here. However, people have asked me about my casual use of the word "goddess."
First of all, in my Tammy Faye shrine, I'm using the word very tongue-in-cheek.
I mean no disrespect to anyone who worships the goddess(es) as deity, with or without corresponding god(s). That's an entirely different subject, and one that I'm comfortable discussing, but not at this website.
(Well, it'll show up in my diary now and then, but that's different...)
In the Tammy Faye and Dame Edna (et al) shrines, the word "goddess" is used the same way as women in the 50's and 60's often talked about gorgeous men saying, "Oh, he's like a Greek god."
Nobody seriously thought Rock Hudson was an actual Greek god, for example.
Today, people describe certain women--particularly singers--as "divas."
The word diva is from the Italic, specifically Latin, meaning "goddess." So many people are using this expression, but don't know that they're tossing the word "goddess" around. *grin*
You'll also hear me refer to certain people as "saints." For example, there's St. Martha Stewart. Do I really think she's a saint? Oh my, no! *LOL*
This is all in good fun. Please do not send me tracts about false gods, demons, Pagan heresies, and so on. (You'd be amazed at some of the email I receive... *sigh*)
If you're offended, I apologize. You'll probably be happier if you do not surf my other pages. My humor tends to be bawdy, irreverent, and... well, I'm just one of those people who finds something funny in almost everything, even when it's highly inappropriate! *grin and shrug*
