CLUES

From Main Street in Katy (Texas), take Avenue D past Fourth Street and turn left onto George Bush Drive, heading towards Katy Heritage Park. Drive to the end of that street, and park (free) in the lot between the VFW building and Heritage Park.

Walk to VFW Memorial Park at the end of the street. At the gate, make an immediate left to follow the very low fence. It leads to two trees that nearly meet at their trunks.

At the split at the base of the left tree, look for a box underneath a curved, large piece of bark that's propped over the box. Remove the box discreetly, and be sure to replace it--concealed as well as you can--when you're finished.

If there are inquisitive children in the playground, take a few minutes to find the Purple Heart letterbox, nearby. By the time you return to find Katy Birdwatcher #1, the playground may be empty again.

Bring a picnic lunch. There are tables throughout the park--some of them are under a shelter. There are also clean rest rooms on one side of the park. It's a good park for relaxing with your children; no matter where you sit, you can probably keep an eye on the kids, easily.

If the park is closed when you're there, the letterbox is hidden very close to the entrance. You probably don't need to enter the park to reach it.
