In the mail...
Mailart is anything artsy (by any definition) that you send through the mail.
That is, the art is (generally, but not always) visible to the postal workers,
as it passes through the mail.
For example: Decorated envelopes; things that aren't exactly envelopes
(someone once mailed a toilet seat, not in a box); and "artistamps" which
look like real postage, but aren't... though they are 'real' stamps!
I've been decorating envelopes with markers, collage, and rubber stamps since
about 1978, but I never designated it as art until recently. Now I'm very
involved in mailart, and
particularly artistamps.
