Collaged Tote Bag

What it says in the booklet - Collage Tote Bag - Create a collage to remember Artfest and celebrate your art. Then make it into a purse or tote bag to carry home your Artfest goodies! Finished bag is vinyl covered and fabric lined -- and one-of-a-kind!

What we're really doing - The prototype involved making the tote bags from scratch, using laminating plastic. It didn't reallllly work. Well, it did, but it took way too long, and the "too long" part was frankly tedious.

Instead, we're using prefab clear vinyl totes in colors... which means we won't line them with fabric because that would spoil the clear vinyl effect.

We will compose a collage using "evidence" from Artfest. Then we'll stick the collage inside and/or outside the tote bag, using laminating plastic. Then we'll decorate the tote with the trinkets we've brought from home, more evidence, etc.

However, in lieu of the fabric linings, I'm supplying pieces to make an Artfest necklace, too. We're using words, like refrigerator magnet poetry, to string together our personal statements about Artfest... interspersed with evidence, collage bits, and so on.

What you must bring - Supplies from Teesha's list. Mostly scissors, gluestick, and evidence, plus trinkets/charms IF you like. If you just show up with a smile and some kind of adhesive like gluestick, that's really all you'll need.

What you could bring - Evidence, lots of evidence. Charms, trinkets, pictures you like that represent Artfest and/or creativity. Quotations you like, ready to include in a collage. Your I-Zone camera, with pix from Artfest.

What I'll supply - totebags, clear laminating plastic, a few assorted paper bits for backing/enhancing your collage. I'll also have a few rubber stamps, some tourist brochures, and eyelets/grommets to set in your bags if you'd like to string charms/trinkets from them, too.

What you can buy - If there are kits left over, they'll be $5 each. (I have 22 students scheduled, and 30 kits with me.) I'll have my sample tote bag, which one student can purchase for $20 if he/she wants to. If time permits, I'll have a couple of bags to show you, and then sell because THE ART I BRING ISN'T GOING HOME WITH ME! *grin*

When & where - Sunday morning, first class (Session 7) in Classroom D, for darned original and creative!
